Caregiver
The Caregiver program has evolved so much over the years. Currently there are two options for caregivers to come to Canada to work temporarily or to become permanent residents. The two programs currently available to caregivers in Canada are:
- Home Child Care Provider Pilot (NOC 4411, excluding foster parents).
- Home Support Worker Pilot (NOC 4412, excluding housekeepers).
This program allows caregivers to receive permanent residency after two years of eligible work experience as well as allow caregivers to bring family members with them to work or study while the caregiver gathers relevant work experience.
Eligibility
- Caregivers are required to obtain an eligible work offer.
- They must have CLB 5 language level and at least one year of Canadian post-secondary education or foreign equivalent.
- They should also be admissible.
Caregivers with an eligible job offer may make an application for permanent residency; if they have the required two years of eligible work experience the application is processed for permanent residency. However, if the applicant does not have the required two years of eligible work experience, an occupation-restricted work permit is issued for up to 3 years allowing the applicant to gather the required experience for two years. Once IRCC is notified of the completed required 2 years of eligible work experience, their permanent residency application is then processed.
